Gor Mahia will be facing two NSL sides in a couple of friendly matches on Saturday.

Record FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia are set to take part in two friendly matches against National Super League (NSL) opposition on Saturday.

Promotion-hungry Naivas FC and Vihiga Bullets, who featured in the top flight last season, will be facing K’Ogalo at the Mpesa Foundation Academy in what will be behind-closed-doors encounters at 10 AM and 12 PM respectively.

Coach Johnathan McKinstry will be using the matches to give all his players - including the fringe ones and the new signings - minutes while using the games to execute new ideas.

Gor have already brought in Sharrif Musa, Enock Wayama, and boy-wonder Mark Shaban to the club this January and they will want to jel with the rest of the squad as soon as possible.

There is no FKFPL action this weekend given the preliminary rounds for this season’s FKF Cup will be taking place this very weekend.

The defending champions are looking primed for another unbeaten season after last weekend's 1-0 win over title rivals Tusker FC in Machakos, and inching closer to a record-extending 21st league title.

They sit pretty at the summit of the topflight standings with 43 points, 10 more than their closest challengers Nairobi City Stars who suffered a dent in their title aspirations following a 2-0 loss to AFC Leopards at Bukhungu Stadium over the weekend.

“We have already built a comfortable buffer zone to keep our opponents at a safe distance," McKinistry remarked when his side beat Tusker last Saturday.

"We can even afford to fumble in a few of our matches and still manage to rally back for a successful title defence.”
