Alan Shearer: What a Mess Alexander Isak's Agent Has Made
The team's former top scorer, now a TV pundit, described the situation as a 'huge mess,' placing the blame squarely on the agent of the striker, who is currently on strike because the club will not let him leave for Liverpool. Shearer believes the agent should be fired immediately.
"Oh my god, what a mess his agent has made of it, honestly. If I were Isak, I would pull my agent into a room and fire him on the spot, because he advised you to sign that six-year contract (from 2022 to 2028) and there’s no buyout clause!" he said as quoted by the Daily Mail.
"It's ridiculous to take someone's word for it in football... there's no point in saying someone said, 'Oh, you'll be able to leave at the end of the season.'"
Alexander Isak accuses the club of breaking a promise, while Newcastle claims none was ever made.
The Swedish striker, who has been training alone for a month and refused to play in the new season's opener against Aston Villa (0-0), recently released an explosive statement.
Alexander Isak accused the club of breaking promises regarding a potential departure and stated that, after all these events, his relationship with the Magpies is definitively over.
Newcastle responded with its own statement, claiming it had not broken any promises because none were ever made to Alexander Isak. "I've always said there are two sides to every story, but my feelings are exactly the same. The player has handled it badly," Shearer insists.
Liverpool offered €127 Million, Newcastle Wants at least €170 Million
"Isak releasing that statement has just added fuel to the fire, which he didn't need to do. I understand we needed to hear his side of the story, we've heard it now, and I'm not saying I don't believe him or Newcastle, I'm just saying it's very, very messy for him and for the football club. It benefits no one," Alan Shearer added.
Shearer's advice: "If he were to apologise and get himself back into the group before the end of the transfer window, then there would be a way back for him."
Liverpool has made a €127 million offer for Isak, but Newcastle wants at least €170 million in return. Furthermore, they have yet to find a replacement.
