Nigeria and Gabon clash in a World Cup playoff semi-final, with both teams aiming to reach the FIFA Play-Off Tournament.

Nigeria face Gabon in a decisive FIFA World Cup second qualifying round semi-final at Morocco’s Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat on Thursday, November 13.

Kick-off is scheduled for 7pm EAT, and the stakes could not be higher and the winner of this encounter will move closer to the FIFA Play-Off Tournament, where two final World Cup spots are on offer.

The match is part of a mini-tournament involving the four best-performing second-placed African qualifiers. Each semi-final winner will advance to the final for a chance to secure a place in the global playoff.

Nigeria, missing out on the 2022 World Cup, are eager to return to football’s biggest stage, while Gabon seeks its first-ever World Cup appearance.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Denis Bouanga have been their standout stars. Aubameyang scored seven goals in just five matches, while Bouanga contributed eight goals and three assists in 10 games. Bouanga will mark his 50th cap for Gabon if selected, adding extra motivation for the attacking midfielder.

Nigeria claimed second place in Group C after a commanding 4-0 victory over Benin on the final matchday, finishing just one point behind group winners South Africa.

Under French coach Éric Chelle, appointed in January, the Super Eagles have remained unbeaten during his tenure, claiming four wins and two draws. The squad carries momentum and confidence heading into the Morocco showdown.

Both sides face immense pressure. Gabon must overcome the disappointment of narrowly missing out on first place in their group, while Nigeria hopes to continue its late surge and keep World Cup dreams alive.

Ademola Lookman returns from suspension to join Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze in a potent attacking lineup for the Super Eagles. Midfielders Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi will be crucial in controlling the tempo. The only long-term absentee is defender Ola Aina.

Gabon also welcome back Aubameyang from suspension. However, injuries to Jim Allevinah, Shavy Babicka, Medwin Biteghe, Michel Mboula, and Junior Noubi Fotso limit their options.

Denis Bouanga remains the central figure in their attack alongside Aubameyang, and both will likely be pivotal in deciding the outcome.

Probable Lineups
