Divock Origi: 5 Potential Destinations for Liverpool Cult Hero After Milan Contract Termination

Former Liverpool striker Divock Origi saw his contract terminated at AC Milan last week after nearly two years without playing but where could he end up now?

Divock Origi finally ended his 20-month hell at Italian giants AC Milan when his contract was terminated last week.

Origi, who signed for Milan on a four-year deal in the summer of 2022, had been frozen out of the squad and did not play for the Rossoneri for 20 months with the club banishing him to the reserves.

With the striker going out on loan for the 20223-24 season, a return to Milan did not change his fortunes and he was not involved at all in 2024-25 and the first half of this season. With the January transfer window nearing and six months remaining on his 4 million Euro annual contract, both sides opted to go separate ways.

So with Divock Origi finally a free agent, where could the 30-year-old former Liverpool striker end up?

A return home to Belgium could suit the striker who honed his skills as a youngster at Genk before moving to France to join Lille.

As a free agent, Divock Origi ticks most boxes for a number of Belgian teams who are looking for fire power in the second half of the season but do not have a big budget for the January transfer window.

The striker would not struggle to adapt as he will be back home and in familiar surroundings within the league.

Could Divock Origi be the next player to join the high-paying Saudi Pro League? That would depend on interest from clubs but the striker would be a hit with a midtable Saudi club where he is away from the spotlight and is given playing time as that is something he has been lacking.

His experience in Europe across England, France and Germany plus the fact that he is a free agent makes him an attractive option.

American clubs would also suit Divock Origi who would have time to be involved in pre-season before the league kicks off in late February, helping him regain his sharpness.

Being a free agent and given where he is coming from means Divock Origi would not command a huge salary that would have been a stumbling block and kickstarting his career in a new environment would serve him better.

France

Divock Origi chose to play for the Belgian National Team over Kenya's Harambee Stars.

The striker would not be a stranger to the French league as it is here where he made a name for himself when playing for Lille.

Just like Monaco gave a chance to Paul Pogba, there would not be a shortage of French clubs willing to take a chance on Divock Origi who would beef up their attack for the second part of the season.

Origi would be going back to a league he knows too well while the club signing him will get him on the cheap.

Liverpool

Highly unlikely but there have been reports already linking Divock Origi with a sensational return to Anfield.

This is not seen as long-term but a short-term solution in the wake to the injury to Alexander Isak which will keep him out for months.

With Hugo Ekitike as the only recognised striker, Liverpool are light up front and Origi could do a job akin to what he did in his seven-year spell at the club, when he came up with many clutch moments.
