Gor Mahia striker Benson Omala is set to enjoy a ‘soft life’ in Algeria after being offered top benefits besides a mega monthly salary by JS Saoura.

Gor Mahia striker Benson Omala is set to pocket a salary of Ksh1.3 million per month following his loan move to Algerian club JS Saoura.

Omala has ditched Gor Mahia for the Algerian side in a sixth-month loan deal that will earn his parent club over $20,000 (Ksh3.2 million) but the player is also set to enjoy some ‘soft life’ during his stay in Meridja with many more benefits beyond the monthly salary.

“The player will be entitled to the following by the club: house, personal car, medical insurance cover, match bonuses as per the standard club rates, and net salary of $8,000 (Ksh1.3 million) per month,” reads part of the deal being offered to the striker.

The deal pales in comparison to what was reportedly being offered by JS Saoura’s league rivals USM Alger, who were heavily linked with the player last month.

USM Alger had tabled a $20,000 (Ksh3.2 million) monthly salary as well as a signing-on fee of $100,000 (Ksh16.4 million) with a view to signing him permanently on a two-and-a-half year contract and intended to pay Gor Mahia $50,000 (Ksh8.2 million) to lure him to Algeria.

However, that deal did not materialise after USM Alger failed to make a formal approach to Gor Mahia but JS Saoura have now got the man, albeit on a short-term deal, and there is hope that both parties will complete the formalities in time.

“The player and the Gor Mahia Club undertake to suspend the employment contract binding them for the duration of the loan. JS Saoura will make payment of the loan compensation only after receipt of the TMS, and the player's physical and medical visits,” the deal further states.

Gor Mahia confirmed Omala's departure on Monday, ending speculation over his future, in what will be a second stint abroad on loan after a brief spell at Swedish club FC Linkoping City in 2021.

JS Saoura are currently placed ninth in the Algerian top flight with 22 points, having won six, drawn four and lost five of their 15 matches so far.
