MMA superstar Conor McGregor has thrown his weight behind Bayer Leverkusen to overcome Atalanta in the eagerly anticipated all-Super Eagles Europa League final.

Speaking on his KICK stream for Duelbits, McGregor initially seemed surprised to learn the Europa League showpiece was being held in his hometown, before quickly turning his attention to the teams involved.

"Atalanta, where are they from? And Bayer Leverkusen is Germany? I'll go Bayer Leverkusen," the UFC star declared per TalkSport.

McGregor went on to explain his reasoning, citing a recent interaction with a "German lad" who had enquired about his Proper 12 and Forged Irish Stout brands.

"We'll put 10 grand on Bayer Leverkusen. That's for the German guy who was asking about Proper 12 and Forged Irish Stout. I'm after betting on your guys' team, Bayer Leverkusen," McGregor announced.

McGregor proudly posed while wearing a Nigeria football jersey, maybe a signal that he is still looking for a battle with Nigerian-American UFC fighter Kamara Usman.

The Europa League final will see Nigerian international Ademola Lookman line up for Atalanta, while Bayer Leverkusen boast the likes of his compatriots Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella in their ranks.

With the support of one of the most famous Irishmen on the planet, Bayer Leverkusen will be hoping to clinch the continental trophy and secure a place in place in history with another invincible run.
