Amos Wanjala is set to captain Rising Stars at the upcoming U20 AFCON taking place in Egypt.
Kenya’s U20 captain Amos Wanjala has opened up on the leadership values and team spirit driving the Rising Stars ahead of their highly anticipated U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign in Egypt.
Following an impressive CECAFA U20 Championship run where Kenya finished unbeaten and bagged 14 goals while conceding just once, Wanjala believes the team has what it takes to challenge the continent’s elite.
Grouped alongside former champions Nigeria, Tunisia, and Morocco in a tough Group B, Kenya’s resolve will be put to the test—but their leader is undeterred.

Harambee Stars Coach Benni McCarthy Snubbed as South African Tactician Gets Nod for Orlando Pirates Job
Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy has been in the news lately, being linked to the Orlando Pirates job as a potential Jose Riveiro successor.
"The mood of the team is 100% positive," Wanjala said with assurance. "Despite coming here and having to adjust to a new climate, different weather, and a completely new environment, it’s been good for us. It’s helping us bond, to gel as a team, and that’s crucial for the competition ahead."
Wanjala, who has captained the team since the U18 level, has been praised for his maturity and influence—qualities that second assistant coach Godfrey “Solo” Oduor had explained would be important for their tournament.
"He's a leader and a big motivation to the team—not just to the technical bench, but to the entire squad,” Oduor remarked. “He's someone we truly feel privileged to have with us. With his inclusion, I’m sure we’ll be even more motivated to perform well."
