FKFPL Impressive Posta Rangers upset Ulinzi Stars

Otieno's first half strike was enough to humble the pampered soldiers.

Posta Rangers defeated Ulinzi Stars  1-0 in an Football Kenya Federation Premier League match at Kasarani Annex on Sunday afternoon.

As a result, Rangers moved up to the 9th spot on the league table, while the Soldiers remained seventh on the standings.

The first chance on the goal came early in the seventh minute  when Timothy Otieno let fly from a distance, but his chance went wide of Ulinzi Stars goal.

Ten minutes later Ulinzi Stars were at it again when Dincen Mwema met a cross with a strong header but saw his effort well saved by the goalkeeper.

Ulinzi Stars captain Bernard Ongoma unleashed a powerful shot in the 24th minute from the edge of the box, but he saw his effort deflected just wide by Rangers defender Kennedy Odhiambo.

However, Rangers took the lead at the half hour mark when Timothy Otieno nodded in Michael Opundo cross with Rick Omondi well beaten.

Ulinzi nearly found an equalizer in the 43rd minute when Issa Mulumba was picked out near the far post  but Rangers defender Elvis Osok cleared the ball for an unfruitful corner.

Posta Rangers started the second half positively Cavin Odongo sent  Vincent Wasambo   through on goal and somehow the former Kariobangi Sharks marksman placed his effort wide of the target. 

Boniface  Muchiri caused some problems for Posta Rangers, but he squared a golden chance in the 65th minute when his free-kick was poached away by Kevin Opiyo.

Kevin Opiyo was in top form in the Rangers goal-posts as he produced a fine diving save from Hillary Omondi’s powerful volley.

Ulinzi Stars coach Bernard Mwalala introduced  midfielder Enosh Ochieng as the visitors looked to contain the Mailmen.

Ochieng had two chances in the closing stages of the match, but the former Muhoroni Youth attacker placed his headers wide of the target.

The hosts then stood firm at the back and in the end, Posta Rangers secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ulinzi Stars.
