Fatuma Zarika's coach and friends have explained what sets her apart from other boxers.

Fatuma "Iron Fist" Zarika was the recipient of glowing praise from her coach and training mates who have disclosed what sets her apart from other boxers.

After close to three years out of competition, Zarika came back to the ring this year and she is just fresh from successfully defending her World Boxing Federation (WBF) World Super Featherweight title.

Her coach Marvin Obuya explained to Citizen TV that the secret to Zarika’s success is hard work and discipline. He has coached the 38-year-old for close to four years and he disclosed that working with her has challenged him.

“I have been with Zarika for four years and working with her has challenged me a lot. She is very hard working and she is very dedicated whether there is a game or not…she is always on her toes.

"At times I always feel like I’m not in the spirit of training but when she shows up I have to ensure we train,” her coach explained.

On his part, one of her friends, Emmanuel Chivoli, explained that there is a lot he has learned from Zarika.

“I have learnt a lot of things from her…she has the discipline, she is a good person with a heart of gold and we love her so much,” he said.

Another friend, George Onyango, also noted that Zarika has been the reason why he is able to keep going since she has been in the game for more than a decade.

He explained that he is keenly following in her footsteps and will surely be the next big thing.

“She teaches us a lot since she has been in the industry for a while and she understands the rules of the game. We want to follow in her footsteps,” another friend, John Mugeni explained.
