Nigeria's D'Tigress are chasing a fourth consecutive Afrobasket glory in Kigali and have dunked off in style.
Nigeria’s quest for a fourth Afro basketball title dunked off to a perfect start following D’Tigress’ dominant victory against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
D’Tigress crushed DR Congo by an incredible 34 points during their opening game on Friday morning in Kigali.
Nigeria defeated DRC 65-35 to begin the journey to fourth on a bright note.
The win sees the basketball queens add to Nigeria’s joy following celebrations that have greeted Super Falcons’ victory against Australia at the FIFAWWC.
Here are the top performers from D’Tigress’s impressive performance against Congo.
Top performers for D’Tigress
Nigeria’s excellent display was led by Elizabeth Balogun, Ifunaya Okoro, Sarah Ogoke and Pallas Kunaiyi Akpanah.
Elizabeth Balogun
Elizabeth led the team in terms of points after she finished a team-high 11 points.
The guard added three rebounds and two assists in a brilliant outing.
Ifunaya Okoro
Another top performer on the day was Ifunaya Okoro who tied Balogun for points.
She scored 11 points, four rebounds and two assists.
Sarah Ogoke
One of the oldest players in the team, Sarah Ogoke proved that her experience will be invaluable to the team in Kigali.
Ogoke scored 10 points, six rebounds and added two assists.
The talented shooting guard also had an efficiency score of 13, just two behind the impressive Kunaiyi.
Pallas Kunaiyi
The centre was rated the best in the game for efficiency, with a score of 15.
She finished with four points, one assist and 10 rebounds which was a team high for D’Tigress.
