Kenyans heading to the 2026 World Cross Country Championships can expect a physically demanding Florida course designed to test endurance, adaptability and resilience.

The world’s top cross-country runners will tackle a course inspired by Florida’s distinctive natural landscape at the World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee on January 10, 2026.

Kenya will lead the charge through Daniel Simiu and defending champion Beatrice Chebet, both aiming to leave their mark on the global stage.

Daniel Simiu is chasing his first cross-country medal, with gold firmly in his sights, while Chebet targets a rare hat-trick after dominant victories in Bathurst and Belgrade.

Despite stiff competition from Ethiopia, Australia and the host nation, Kenya’s proven resilience suggests they will once again be a major force at the championships.

World Cross Country Championships Course

The challenging terrain at Apalachee Regional Park will test even the most seasoned athletes, featuring a demanding mix of sand, water, and mud. A signature "rollercoaster" section is also designed to push competitors to their limits.

A newly released video preview offers a glimpse into the course, showcasing its rolling hills, wide grass straights, and distinctive red clay paths that wind through scenic pine forests. The preview highlights the key features and vibrant atmosphere that will greet athletes from around the globe.

The 10km race is structured around two main loops, incorporating four distinct challenge areas. Runners will have to navigate each of these demanding sections five times throughout the event.

To enhance the spectator experience, fan zones will be strategically placed along the course's challenge areas. These zones will feature various Florida-centric themes, designed to complement the obstacles faced by the runners.

Enthusiasts will also have the chance to experience the championship course firsthand. Four community fun runs are scheduled, offering a unique opportunity for fans to lace up their shoes and test their own abilities on the same challenging terrain as the world's best.
