Kenya exit 4x100m relay as Canada, USA, and Ghana shine; shock eliminations for Jamaica, South Africa, and Great Britain.

Kenya’s men’s 4x100m relay team have been eliminated from the World Athletics Championships 2025 after finishing sixth in their heat in Tokyo.

Despite a determined effort from Boniface Ontuga Mweresa, Steve Odhiambo Onyango, Meshack Kitsubuli Babu, and Mark Otieno Odhiambo, their time of 38.56 seconds was not enough to secure a place in the final.

Canada and USA Dominate First Heat

Canada produced a textbook performance to take victory in the first heat with 37.85 seconds. The team of Aaron Brown, Jerome Blake, Brendon Rodney, and Andre De Grasse executed seamless baton exchanges, holding off the United States, who finished second in 37.98 seconds.

Germany claimed third in 38.12, ensuring automatic qualification, while France (38.34) and Belgium (38.46) advanced on time.

Kenya’s effort, though commendable, fell short as their reaction time and changeovers could not match the top teams. Poland (38.59) followed closely behind, while Jamaica — one of the pre-race favorites — suffered a shock exit after dropping the baton on their final exchange between Ryiem Forde and Kishane Thompson, recording a DNF.

Ghana Shine in Heat Two as South Africa and Britain Exit

The second heat saw Ghana steal the headlines with a sensational national record of 37.79 seconds. Ibrahim Fuseini, Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Paul Amoah, and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu ran a flawless race to top the heat ahead of the Netherlands (37.95) and Japan (38.07).

In a major upset, both South Africa and Great Britain failed to progress, their campaigns derailed by poor baton exchanges.

Their elimination, coupled with Jamaica’s in the first heat, has dramatically reshaped the medal outlook and opened opportunities for emerging teams.
