Reigning Tokyo Marathon champion Rosemary Wanjiru is motivated to do much better going forward after being feted as March's SJAK Player of the Month.
Wanjiru was feted after she cruised to victory at the Tokyo Marathon in March. She clocked 2:16:28 to be elevated to the sixth fastest marathoner in the world. It was only her second World Marathon Major after last year’s Berlin Marathon.

The four have been recognised for their outstanding performances between January and April by electronics giant LG and Sports Journalists’ Association of Kenya
Others feted included Kenya Pipeline women’s volleyball star Pamela Adhiambo, World Cross-Country champion Beatrice Chebet and London Marathon champion Kelvin Kiptum.
“I have never been feted before and I am so happy. I will work harder so that next time, I will also be awarded,” Wanjiru said.
She recalled her ordeal during the marathon and noted that it was not an easy task. However, she revealed that she had to fight hard since she really wanted to win the race.
“It was not an easy task for me and I had to push hard. I fell down at some point but I had to keep going since my eyes were fixed on the crown,” Wanjiru said.

The women’s title now remains in the country for the second time consecutively after Brigid Kosgei’s win last year.
The 28-year-old made her full marathon debut at last year’s Berlin Marathon and displayed a brilliant show to finish second in the highly contested race that had attracted some of the best athletes.
The Tokyo Marathon was her second and she managed a dominant win. She has not revealed her next port of call yet but fireworks will definitely be expected when she competes again.
