Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Receives Emotional Homecoming Tribute from Waterhouse
Jamaican sprint legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was honoured by her hometown club, Waterhouse FC, for her spectacular 18-year career in track and field.
The ceremony took place on Sunday during halftime of the Jamaica Premier League match against Molynes United at the Waterhouse Mini Stadium.
Bruce Bicknell, chairman of Waterhouse FC and managing director of Tank-Weld Metals Limited, presented a citation to the multiple Olympic and World Champion, celebrating her remarkable achievements in the 100m and 200m events.
"In recognition of an extraordinary 18-year career in athletics, the Waterhouse Football Club, together with the Waterhouse community, extend our profound commendation to Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce," Bicknell read to the cheering crowd. "As she moves on to the next chapter of her life, we wish her sincere best wishes and continued success."
The citation continued, "May you carry with you the same passion, fire, and grace that has defined your journey so far, and carry 'Mommy Rocket' even higher. The deepest respect and admiration from Waterhouse Football Club."
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Reacts Following Huge Honour
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, in turn, highlighted the crucial role that Tank-Weld, the Bicknell family, and the Waterhouse community played in her formative years. She expressed that the club and its community remain dear to her.
"A lot of you might not know, but Tank-Weld contributed a lot to my high school journey, because my mom would have received a lot of support from Tank-Weld and Bruce, and I want to say a big thank you for playing your role in the journey," she shared. "And also to the Waterhouse Football Club for the continued support, love, and dedication."
Addressing the local supporters, she added, "To the fans and supporters of Waterhouse, I think one of the greatest messages is knowing that greatness can come from Waterhouse. I really appreciate all the support I have at home. Anyone who knows me knows I bleed Waterhouse through and through, and I thank you for the support."
While her competitive career is drawing to a close, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is looking forward to her future with optimism.
"The journey has been extraordinary, and there is nothing without God. It is God who makes all things good, and I give Him the glory for all that He has done for me," she said.
"I look forward to the next journey and what that chapter holds, and I want to wish the Waterhouse team all the best for the rest of the season. If anybody can win, it's you."
In the match itself, visiting Molynes United secured a 2-0 victory, moving them up to seventh place in the league standings with 15 points, level with sixth-placed Waterhouse FC, who hold a superior goal difference.
