Kenya’s 4x400m mixed relay team has been disqualified from the True Athletes Classic Meeting in Leverkusen, Germany on Saturday night.

The team had gone to Germany with the hope of improving their time and also rising through the ranks but unfortunately breached a World Athletics Technical Rule (TR) that saw them disqualified from the race.

As reported by Nation Sport, they breached TR 24.19 which states that for all takeovers, athletes are not permitted to begin running outside their takeover zones, and shall start within the zone. If an athlete does not follow this Rule, their team shall be disqualified.

The team that comprises Commonwealth Games champions Mary Moraa and Wycliffe Kinyamal, Naomi Korir, and Boniface Mweresa now have their fingers crossed that things will not change from now until Monday, July 31 so they can remain among the top 16 ranked teams and still qualify for the global event.

With the unavailability of the Kenyans on the starting line, the relay team from Great Britain and Northern Ireland carried the day by winning the race.

As per World Athletics, the top eight teams at the 2022 World Championships automatically qualified. They include the Dominican Republic, Netherlands, USA, Poland, Jamaica, Nigeria, Italy, and Ireland.

For the other teams to qualify, they have to be among one of the top-ranked sides at the end of the qualification period, July 31.
