Fred Kerley has shared a cryptic post, seemingly joking about quitting the track following his successive Diamond League defeat.

The 2022 World Champion Fred Kerley is seemingly willing to switch track and field with football following his successive defeats in the Diamond League Meetings.

Kerley started his outdoor season on a high note, winning the Hurricane Invitational and then extending his winning streak to the Hurricane Alumni Invitational, both races held in the US.

The American then started his Diamond League campaign at the Meeting in Xiamen where he was beaten by World Indoor 60m champion Christian Coleman to second place. He then proceeded to the Diamond League Meeting in Shanghai where he finished third behind South Africa’s Akani Simbine and Coleman.

Following the defeats, the 28-year-old shared a post on his X (Twitter) handle saying: “I want to go play football.” A fan commented on his tweet: “Football is a challenge for you.”

Another fan urged Kerley not to quit the sport, telling him not to give up and that he should consider changing coaches one more time and maybe join forces with Rana Reider.

“Don’t give up sir. You still have potential and energy for the track. You probably need someone to guide you on the correct methods.

“Don’t give yourself too much pressure. You already have an individual Olympic silver which is better than many stars including Tyson Gay and Asafa Powell.

“Be in the top 5 in the US trial and make the relay pool at least. Relay gold is also what you didn’t get in Tokyo. Nothing but blessings.

“Probably you can try Rana Reider next season since he used to help Andre and Trayvon release potential and comeback from injury, especially Trayvon, who was in 10.5 form before with Rana, their talent is lower than you,” the fan commented on the post.
