Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala is amazed by the amount of love shown to him by fans from Botswana.
The reigning Commonwealth Games champion was in action in the men’s 100m at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix and despite the loss, fans turned out in large numbers and cheered him on.
He finished second in 10.00 seconds behind South Africa’s Akani Simbine who set a world leading time of 9.90 seconds.

In a past interview, before the Botswana Golden Grand Prix, Ferdinand Omanyala expressed love for Botswana, calling the South African country his second home.
He also expressed excitement towards making a return to Botswana, after winning the 100m at the 2023 edition in 9.78 seconds. After the race, Ferdinand Omanyala lauded the fans, revealing that he would be back next year.
“I’m in my second home, the reception has been amazing, you know where it is, Botswana. This weekend we are doing the Botswana Grand Prix and I’m excited because this is my first big meet of the season,” he said.
