Berlin remains to be Kipchoge’s most successful marathon since he has managed to bag four wins and set two world records.

Four-time Berlin Marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge believes racing in the streets of the German capital on Sunday, September 24 is essential as he prepares to win his third successive marathon title at next year’s Paris Olympic Games.

Kipchoge insisted that the course will always be his favourite and he is sure competing in the race will be a great build-up as he eyes history at the Olympic Games.

Berlin remains to be Kipchoge’s most successful marathon since he has managed to bag four wins and set two world records. He set the first marathon world record during the 2018 edition where he clocked 2:01:39 to cross the finish line.

He then set another record during last year’s edition where he lowered his previous time to 2:01:09 and he will be chasing history one more time.

“As always, I’m a fan of Berlin but this year I chose the Berlin Marathon, especially for the Olympic Games in Paris.

"I trust that Berlin is the right place to actually shake the muscles and have enough time to prepare for Paris.

"Berlin is a very good place for me…I’ve won four times with two world records. It actually stuck in my mind…to have two world records in Berlin is wonderful,” Kipchoge said.

The four-time London Marathon champion also recalled how he set the world record and noted that his main aim going to this year’s edition of the event is to run a good race.

On his Twitter account, he posted: “I have been putting in the work together with the team, doing all my training and trusting the process.

"I am ready to go back to my special place, back to Berlin to take on the challenge again.”
