Five-time world 100m champion Shelly-Anne Fraser-Pryce was also expected to compete but unfortunately had to withdraw.

13 days after hosting a successful event, Athletics Kenya Nairobi Chairman Barnaba Korir is already plotting to stage a much bigger and better 2024 Kip Keino Classic.

Korir, who also doubles up as the AK Events Director, ensured the fans left the Moi International Sports Center in Kasarani on Saturday, May 13 satisfied.

In a post on his Facebook page, Korir said: “I still can't get enough of the 2023 Kip Keino Classic, it was amazing!

"As the race director, I assure you next year's edition will be much bigger. Something special we've not seen in the previous four editions.”

This year’s event saw meet records fall and athletes setting world leads. It had attracted some of the greatest athletes including sprint sensation Sha’Carri Richardson, world 200m silver medallist Kenneth Bednarek, both from USA and reigning world javelin champion Anderson Peters of Grenada.

Five-time world 100m champion Shelly-Anne Fraser-Pryce was also expected to compete but unfortunately had to withdraw last minute due to an injury.

Home fans were also left star-struck by Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala’s performance which saw him set a world lead time of 9.84. He is now the fastest man over the 100m since the season started. World Champion Fred Kerley is second with a time of 9.88.

Apart from the brilliant performances, the event was also a unifying factor where President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga were seen talking and laughing together.
