Omanyala intends to also run in the meets in Rome, Monaco, and Shanghai and conclude in the final in Oregon.

Commonwealth Games 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala has revealed he will kick-off his Diamond League tour at the meet in Rabat, Morocco scheduled for May 28.

This will be the second time the 27-year-old participates in Diamond League as he competed in Brussels in 2021. In the event that was won by Fred Kerley, Omanyala managed a fourth place in 10.02.

He did not participate in the Diamond Leagues last year owing to the global events he had lined up including the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and the World Championships in Oregon.

“With the postponement of the All Africa Games, I will start the circuit in Morocco, then go to Rome in June. I will also participate in Monaco and Shanghai. I will conclude the final in Oregon where I am going to win.

There is no doubt about that. I’m just firing warning shots to other athletes,” the Africa 100m record holder bullishly said.

Omanyala intends to run below 9.80 seconds at the Botswana Gold Grand Prix scheduled for April 29 in Gaborone.

He also revealed that he will be keen to break his own record when he lines up for the Kip Keino Classic on May 13. During last year’s edition, Omanyala stunned the masses as he obliterated a strong field to win the 100m in a new African record time of 9.77.

He observed that starting off the season with the indoor tour was a perfect move. In his France tour, Omanyala won three of the four races he competed in and placed second in one. He also set a national record of 6.54 over 60m in Lieven.

“The indoors have really played a really great role for me this season. I’m just building up on that,” he said.
