AFCON 2025: Tournament Format
The 24 participating nations have been drawn into six groups of four. The top two teams from each group will automatically advance to the knockout stage. They will be joined by the four best-ranked third-place teams.
The tournament then proceeds to a single-elimination format, starting with the round of 16, followed by the quarterfinals, semifinals, and the final. A third-place playoff will also be held between the two losing semifinalists.
In the knockout rounds, if a match is tied after 90 minutes, it will go to 30 minutes of extra time. If the score remains level, a penalty shootout will determine the winner.
