Zidane has not worked in football since leaving his second spell as Real Madrid coach in 2021 but he still has the desire to return to the dugout in the near future.

The 1998 Ballon d’Or winner is categorical where he would want to work next after more than four years out of the game and it is a job that will need him to be patient.

“I will definitely return to coaching. Me at Juventus? I don’t know why it didn’t happen. I always have them in my heart because they gave me so much. In the future, I don’t know, one of my goals is to coach the French national team. We’ll see,” Zidane admitted while speaking at the Trento Football Festival.

Coaching France will mean the 1998 World Cup winner will have to wait until his ex-team-mate Didier Deschamps completes his reign, likely after the 2026 World Cup, in what would be the end of a 14-year spell with Les Bleus.

Zidane Gets Candid on What Makes Good Coach

Zidane is widely regarded as the preferred candidate to succeed Deschamps and it looks like he is ready to wait until next summer to land the job he covets.

The 53-year-old, who won 11 trophies across two spells with Madrid, then went into details over what makes a great coach.

"The most important thing is to have a passion for football and to want to pass on something to your players, what you have in you, deep within you," added Zidane.

"A coach has an important role in the success of his team. In my opinion, his energy and desire are 80 per cent of whether things go well."

Zidane has praised legendary Italian coaches Marcelo Lippi and Carlo Ancelotti for having the greatest influence on him as a player and coach.
