'You Guys Know the Story With Him' – Kishane Thompson Explains Why Oblique Seville Deserved 100m Gold
Kishane Thompson has hailed his compatriot Oblique Seville following his exploits at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
Competing in the men’s 100m, Oblique Seville became the first Jamaican to win a gold medal in the race since Usain Bolt did it at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing.
Oblique Seville was in a class of his own as he claimed op honours, crossing the finish line in a personal best time of 9.77 seconds.

Kishane Thompson Proud of Oblique Seville After Tokyo Exploits
Kishane Thompson, although disappointed in his performance, revealed that Oblique Seville deserved the gold following the season that he had and his past performances.
Oblique Seville has always missed the podium in his major World Championships since he made his debut at the 2022 edition in Eugene, Oregon and finished fourth in the final.
The reigning world champion then finished fourth at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, before winning the gold in Tokyo.
Kishane Thompson noted that it had been a while since Jamaica won the gold medal in the men’s 100m, and he was happy that it was back to the Caribbean nation. However, he pointed out that he was not pleased with his silver medal.
“For Jamaica as a whole, I think that's a really good thing because it's been a while since we've gotten the gold and actually gotten a gold and silver. Yeah. So, it's a great thing for Jamaica. For me, it was a great thing, and I said it before, but I can't remember,” Kishane Thompson revealed in an interview with Citius Mag.
“I said it was a grateful and disappointing moment for me, but seeing that my countryman Oblique Seville got the gold, I was really proud of him, honestly you know you guys know the story with him. It was a really phenomenal feeling for both of us at the end of the day.”
Kishane Thompson made his debut on the global stage at the Paris Olympic Games, where he won a silver medal in the men’s 100m, finishing second behind Noah Lyles.
