Winning start for Amus College, Royal Giants

Amus College girls' team edged closer to the semi-finals of the CAF African Schools Football Championship CECAFA zonal qualifiers with two wins on Friday.

The tournament is taking place at the Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The Ugandan champions were unmatched as they thrashed El Hila AL Jadida from Sudan 3-0 in their opening match.

Aisha Kakai, Sharon Nabunya and Joan Namungo scored a goal each to ensure the Bukedea district learners started on the right footing.

The team returned in the afternoon to edge CEM Baulous from Djibouti by 1-0.

The results send them top of group B with 6 points. They will complete their group assignment on Saturday against Kiramuruzi Modern from Rwanda. A draw will see them through.

In the boys' category, goals by Enock Bagenda and Thomas Ogema ensured a winning start for Royal Giants as they beat Benjamin Mkapa 2-0.

The top two from each group will advance to the semis to be played on Sunday inside the Azam complex. The overall champions in the respective gender will receive $100,000 (shs. 370 billion), while the runners-up will take $75,000 and $50, 000. The winners will join seven others from around Africa at the 2023 CAF African Schools Football Championship. The tournament will be played in Egypt in April.
