‘We are ready for a good fight’ - Former Super Eagles coach reveals plan for CAF Champions League clash against Pyramids
Rivers United head coach Finidi George has expressed strong confidence in his squad as the Nigerian side gears up for a difficult away clash against Egyptian powerhouse Pyramids FC in the CAF Champions League group stage.
The match will take place on Saturday at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo, where the hosts are widely tipped to dominate.
What Finidi said
However, Finidi insists his players are mentally and physically primed for the challenge.
Speaking during his pre-match media duties, the former Super Eagles winger said he expects a highly competitive encounter.
“We are looking forward to an interesting game against the defending champions. It is going to be a good game, the atmosphere is good, and we are looking forward to the game,” Finidi said.
Despite acknowledging the strength of Pyramids FC, he emphasised that Rivers United will not be intimidated and will play with belief.
Rivers United enter the group stage looking to make a strong impression after navigating previous rounds successfully. Finidi has worked to build a resilient squad capable of competing with Africa’s elite clubs, and the trip to Cairo presents an early test of their credentials.
In the other Group B match, RS Berkane of Morocco will face Power Dynamos from Zambia, a fixture that could set the tone for what promises to be one of the tournament’s most competitive groups.
Rivers United will be eager to secure valuable points early in the campaign as they battle for a spot in the knockout stages.
