Tanzania giants Simba SC got the better of Egyptian side Al Masry after winning their quarterfinal clash against the North Africans in the post math penalty shootout.

Simba, enjoying the home support at the National Stadium, Dar es Salaam, will be playing in the semifinals for the first time after several failed attempts.

Simba, who are the 22-time Tanzania Premier League champions, scored two first half goals that brought the tie to 2-2 on aggregate, forcing the match to head into penalties.

Uganda cranes striker Steven Mukwala scored the second goal after he found the back of the net in the 32nd minute according to Kawowo Sports.  Elia Mpanzu had put David Fadlu’s men in the lead ten minutes earlier.

In the second half, the game was a stop start with the North Africans falling on ground at every opportunity in a bid to take steam out of Simba.

Despite the frustration, Simba went on to win 4-1 in penalties with Mukwala among the scorers in the shootout as well.

Other scorers in the shootout for Simba included Jean Charles Ahoua, Denis Kibu and Shomari Kapombe with Ben Youssef the only Al Masry player to convert.

Simba will now face the winner between South Africa’s Stellenbosch and Zamalek, with the team determined to lay their hands on the continental trophy.

Simba trail leaders Yanga in the league by seven points, although Wekundu Wa Msimbazi have played two games less.
