Switzerland’s Audrey Werro showed remarkable maturity to hold on for a thrilling 800m victory, setting a Meeting Record time of 1:55.33 at the Diamond League Meeting in Lausanne.

As Werro began to tire in the final meters, Femke Broeders-Bol came closing in with a ferocious late charge, ultimately taking second in a national record time of 1:55.41.

Ethiopia’s Saida Tsehaye took third with a personal best of 1:56.92 to round out the podium. Kenya’s Lilian Odira, the reigning world 800m champion, also featured in the high-calibre field, placing seventh overall in a solid 1:59.25.

Audrey Werro’s 2026 Season Highlights

Audrey Werro has been in great shape this season, highlighted by victories across a wide range of distances. She set the tone early in March by securing a silver medal in the 800m at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Toruń with a time of 1:56.64.

Carrying that momentum into the outdoor circuit, Werro strung together a series of impressive wins in the 800m, including Diamond League triumphs in Rabat (1:56.56), Stockholm (1:53.98), and Paris (1:53.80), as well as a victory at the Ostrava Golden Spike (1:54.45).

She also flashed her speed over non-traditional distances, clocking 1:22.85 to win the 600m in Biel and taking the 400m title in Fribourg in 51.33.

On home soil at the Swiss Championships in Zürich, she delivered an impeccable performance, winning her 800m heat and final (1:57.21) while also taking victory in her 400m heat in 50.80.

Werro capped off her summer at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, recovering from a tough semi-final to capture the 800m gold medal in a blistering 1:54.81 before heading to Lausanne.

Lilian Odira’s 2026 Season So Far

Lilian Odira has enjoyed a great first half of her 2026 season, kicking off her outdoor campaign in April with a second-place finish in the 800m at the Kip Keino Classic, clocking 1:59.15.

In May, she demonstrated her stamina at the Athletics Kenya Prison Services Championships in Nairobi, competing across three distances and sweeping victories in the 400m, 800m, and 1500m events.

Lilian Odira then claimed a strong third-place finish in the 800m at the Rabat Diamond League with a time of 1:57.27. She then returned home to dominant form, winning both her heat and the final at the Kenyan Trials to secure her spot for the Commonwealth Games.

Taking that momentum to Eugene, Oregon, she produced a brilliant run to win the 800m at the Prefontaine Classic, clocking 1:56.19.

Before heading to Lausanne, Lilian Odira capped off her stellar run in Glasgow at the XXIII Commonwealth Games, smoothly winning her heat and semi-final before earning a silver medal in the 800m final with a time of 2:00.58.
