UCL: Super Eagles star who left AFCON 2023 crashes out without a goal or assist
Umar Sadiq's UEFA Champions League (UCL) campaign with Real Sociedad ended disappointingly as the Spanish side crashed out in the round of 16 against Paris Saint-Germain.
Pulse Sports Nigeria reports that the Nigerian striker was an unused substitute in Tuesday's 2-1 second leg defeat at the Reale Arena as PSG progressed 4-1 on aggregate.
Umar Sadiq underwhelms in the UCL
It capped a frustrating knockout stage for Sadiq, who managed just 22 minutes across the two legs against the French champions.
The 27-year-old came off the bench in the first leg 2-0 loss in Paris before being an unused sub for the return fixture in San Sebastian.
It continues a strange few months for the former Almeria man, who abruptly left the Super Eagles camp at the Africa Cup of Nations in January due to an alleged injury.
However, Sadiq was then fit enough to feature for Sociedad just days later, making as many as eight appearances before his Champions League bit-part role.
He exited without a goal involvement in Europe's elite club competition this season in four appearances.
Sadiq's lack of impact ultimately proved costly as Sociedad's Champions League dream ended at the hands of Kylian Mbappe and PSG.
The Ligue 1 leaders eased through as winners on aggregate thanks to Mbappe's goals in each leg.
For Sadiq and Sociedad, it's now back to focusing on clinching a top-four La Liga finish after an inconsistent run of just one win in their last five matches.

But the Nigerian will likely be left ruing his lack of playing time and inability to make his mark on the Champions League stage this season.
