Osimhen to battle Argentina’s World Cup star for POTM award

Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen has been nominated for another Serie A player of the month following his superb performances for Napoli. 

Osimhen is on the five-man shortlist released by EA Sports for February’s award after his excellent displays for the Neapolitans. 

It is Osimhen’s fourth consecutive nomination, and he will be hoping to win it back-to-back after winning the January award. 

The Super Eagles star has been unstoppable in front of goal for Napoli this season and he continued in the same vein last month. 

Osimhen scored five goals in four Serie A matches for Napoli in February. Osimhen opened his account in February with two goals against Spezia before scoring one each against Cremonese, Sassuolo and Empoli. 

The Nigeria international will have to slug it out with Juventus and Argentina’s World Cup star Angel Di Maria. 

Osimhen’s partner in crime at Napoli Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was also nominated along with Torino’s Aleksei Miranchuk and Federico Baschirotto of Lecce. 

However, the Super Eagles star is the favourite for the award, although he will need fans to vote for him in large numbers to win prize back-to-back. 

Osimhen is having his best-ever individual season yet, having scored 21 goals and assisted another four in 25 games for Napoli. 

The 24-year-old is currently the leading scorer in Italy’s top flight with 19 goals in 20 league games while he also has two goals in four Champions League matches. 

Should Osimhen win February 2023 Serie A player of the month award, it will be his third prize after winning it last month and in March 2022.
