Newly-elected KGU chairman Philip Ochola reveals how he aims to develop the sport

Newly-elected Kenya Golf Union chairman Philip Ochola of Muthaiga Golf Club has revealed that his main aim going forward is to develop the sport in the country.

Ochola said he wants to partner with the Ministry of Sports and the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (R and A) as he seeks to make golf a huge sport in the country. The sole responsibility of R and A is to engage in and support activities for the benefit of golf.

“I want to focus on the development of golf. I want to partner with the government and the R and A on the high performance. Most importantly, I want to partner with the PGA so they can offer degree programs to our youngsters,” elated Ochola said.

The PGA Tour is responsible for organising professional golf tournaments. The Magical Kenya Open is also an official event on the PGA Tour.

Meanwhile, the elections were staged on Friday evening, May 26 at the Muthaiga Golf Club. Ochola was elected unopposed alongside David Ndung’u of the Limuru Country Club who will serve as the Vice Chairman.

Chris Kinuthia of Thika Sports Club and Karuo Macharia of Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club assumed the Secretary General and Treasurer positions.
