Newcastle vs Fulham: Jimenez sees red for bizarre flying kick as Magpies score easy win
Mexican striker Raul Jimenez was the villain while Newcastle youngster Lewis Miley was the hero as the Magpies claimed a comfortable 3-0 win over their visitors Fulham in the Premier League.
Newcastle were looking to bounce back from the disappointment of a midweek European exit and bounced back perfectly with the emphatic victory over Fulham.
Goals from Miley, Miguel Almiron and Dan Burn were enough to cement an easy win for the home side.
How it happened
Fulham were reduced to 10 men early on as striker Raul Jimenez received a straight red card for an outrageous flying kick on Newcastle’s Sean Longstaff.
The forward’s misdemeanor tackle meant that Fulham were forced to play nearly 70 minutes with a man down and under immense pressure.
Despite the red card, Fulham were still able to hold on to go into the half-time break at 0-0, with goalkeeper Bernd Leno their saviour on several occasions.
In the second half, the Fulham dam finally broke as Newcastle youngster Lewis Miley scored his first goal for the Magpies with an angled drive into the bottom corner.
Newcastle soon doubled their lead through winger Almiron before a late goal from Burn confirmed that all three points would be staying at Saint James’ Park.
