“My relationship with Marinakis is not good anymore”- Ola Aina's manager speaks on rift in the club
Turmoil surrounds Nottingham Forest as recent reports of a rift between the club's management and manager Nuno Espírito Santo appear to be confirmed.
Nottingham Forest are now assessing managers to replace Nuno Espírito Santo, according to transfer market specialist Matteo Moretto.
What Espírito Santo said
Speaking to the press, via Sportal, the Portuguese manager acknowledged the existence of issues in his relationship with Nottingham Forest owner, Evangelos Marinakis.
“I've always had a very good relationship with the owner. Last year, we were very close, almost in daily contact. This year, our relationship isn't as good. I always believe that dialogue and speaking your mind is important. My concern is about the squad and the next season,” he initially stated.
When asked about the current state of their relationship, he replied: “Our relationship has changed; we are not as close on a daily basis. It’s not good. I believe everyone at the club should be united, but this is the reality.”
Regarding the rumors about his future, the Portuguese coach was disarmingly frank: “We know each other very well and we've all been in this business for many years. Where there's smoke, there's fire, so I know how things work.”
He added: “But I'm here to do my job. I understand it, because I am concerned. I'm the first one to be concerned, the first one to worry. There's no smoke without fire, and besides, I've been on the other side, without a job, knowing full well what happens.”
At the same time, Nuno Espírito Santo described his own perspective on his role at the club: “My job is clear. At Forest, we all know my role is to manage the team, prepare them correctly, and always focus on improving players individually to help them reach the next level and perform at our best.
"That's what I always do, and it's my main priority. However, the club has different views. I am a person who expresses his opinion and then does his job. And my job, as I told you, is to prepare the team,” he concluded.
