Manchester United icon praises 'World Class' Super Eagles star Iwobi after quick-fire goal and assist
Fulham lit up Craven Cottage with a 3-1 victory over Brentford, and at the heart of it all was Nigeria’s Alex Iwobi, whose goal and stunning assist turned the derby on its head.
The Super Eagles midfielder earned glowing praise from Manchester United legend Dimitar Berbatov, who hailed his decisive contributions as “world-class.”
Iwobi inspires Fulham’s turnaround
Fulham had fallen behind in the 20th minute after a defensive error allowed Mikkel Damsgaard to strike, but Iwobi dragged them level in the 38th minute with a composed finish.
Less than two minutes later, he turned provider with a perfectly weighted pass to Harry Wilson, who lashed home first-time into the far corner.
That quick-fire double changed the tempo of the contest, and Fulham never looked back, going on to pick three valuable points.
A Pinnock own goal early in the second half gave Marco Silva’s men breathing space as they closed out back-to-back wins to climb to seventh in the Premier League, level on points with Chelsea.
Berbatov hails “unbelievable” assist
Berbatov, speaking on Premier League Productions, described Iwobi’s pass as “unbelievable,” insisting it had all the qualities of a world-class moment.
“From the moment the ball reached Iwobi's feet—what a pass, unbelievable. A world-class pass, and the finish was on the same level," Berbatov said.
"To connect with the ball in such a way that you guide it calmly and precisely into the corner, with finesse and technique, is extremely difficult. That’s what made the goal perfect—the pass and the finish together," the ex-Red Devils star added.
But for him, it was Iwobi’s vision and execution that stood out most, a reminder that the Super Eagles star has the ability to decide matches at the very highest level.
