Manchester United extend longest ever unbeaten run against Chelsea to 12 games
An inspirational display from Scott McTominay saw Manchester United extend their unbeaten streak against Chelsea in the Premier League.
McTominay scored a fantastic brace as United defeated a poor Chelsea side 2-1 in an intriguing encounter at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
Manchester United vs Chelsea
The Red Devils, playing with more purpose and hunger turned on the style to return to winning ways, inspired by McTominay.
The 26-year-old netted in either half as United dominated the clash at home against Mauricio Pochettino’s struggling Blues.
Former Manchester City player, Cole Palmer, had silenced the home crowd when he drew Chelsea level just before the break.
However, United will not be denied this time and at home as Alejandro Garnacho teed up McTominay, who towered home the winner in the 69th minute of the game.
The final whistle finally arrived, with the sense of relief felt in the Stadium amongst the players, staffers and fans as the Red Devils ultimately put behind them the defeat at St. James’ Park at the weekend.
United’s victory also meant the Red Devils extended their unbeaten run against the Blues to 12 matches, the longest Chelsea have gone without a win against their arch-rivals.
What the result means
In terms of what the result at Old Trafford meant for both teams, Erik Ten Hag’s Manchester United remain in the hunt for European places, if not the league title.
United sit sixth on the standings with 27 points, just three behind neighbours and defending champions, Manchester City, who suffered a shock 1-0 loss at Aston Villa.
For Chelsea, it was a case of more of the same as they remain rooted at 10th, with 19 points.
