Despite being off to an impressive start to her season, Keely Hodgkinson’s weight gain has been a major point of concern for fans.

The reigning Olympic 800m champion started her season with the 800m at the Novuna UK Athletics Indoor Championships.

Keely Hodgkinson proceeded to compete at the Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais Trophée EDF, where she broke the 800m indoor world record, crossing the finish line in 1:54.87.

The world 800m bronze medallist then claimed top honours in the 400m at the 4J Studios Scottish Athletics National Indoor Combined Events Championships and is now gearing up for the World Indoor Championships.

Jenny Meadows Responds to Keely Hodgkinson Weight Gain

Jenny Meadows has since shared a post on her X (Twitter) handle and addressed recent online speculation about changes in Keely Hodgkinson’s physique, clarifying that the discussions circulating on social media were misleading and lacked proper context.

Meadows explained that any adjustment in body composition should be understood alongside the athlete’s performance needs and health history, noting that a reduction in weight during a previous season was followed by injury challenges. According to her, the subsequent gradual increase was a return to a healthier baseline rather than a dramatic transformation.

The coach emphasised that the priority has been to support long-term wellbeing, strength, and resilience, especially as the athlete continues to mature physically. She encouraged supporters to recognise the importance of development and recovery in elite sport, and to move away from focusing on unstable or speculative figures shared online.

“Seen dubious comments that Keely put 6kg body mass on. Context, in Paris ‘24 she lost 3kg so increase only 3kg to prior. At lower mass she got injured. Let’s applaud a young woman who puts health first, is growing into her adult body & doesn’t get fixated on unstable numbers,” Jenny Meadows shared.

Meanwhile, after the Paris Olympic Games, Keely Hodgkinson suffered an injury setback that forced her to skip the entire indoor season in 2025.

She went on to compete at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, where she claimed a bronze medal behind Lilian Odira and her training partner, Georgia Hunter Bell.

Keely Hodgkinson is now fully healthy, and after breaking the indoor 800m world record, she is targeting the 800m outdoor record.
