Harambee Stars Defender Breaks Silence as He Plots Exit From Gor Mahia
Gor Mahia's left-back, Siraj Mohammed, has confirmed his intention to leave the club during the upcoming January transfer window.
The Harambee Stars defender cited a lack of playing time as the primary reason for his decision. Siraj Mohammed, who was one of the standouts during the African Nations Championship, was a high-profile signing for the record FKF Premier League champions during the off-season.
The move to Gor Mahia was intended to be a new chapter in his top-flight career after a nearly decade-long tenure at Bandari.
However, the transfer has not unfolded as anticipated. Nine matches into the season, Siraj Mohammed has yet to make a single appearance for the club.
Bryton Onyona has cemented his position as the first-choice left-back, with Levin Odhiambo serving as his primary backup.
The situation is further complicated by the expected return of assistant captain Geoffrey Ochieng, who has been sidelined with an injury and registration issues but is anticipated to be available after the mid-season transfer window opens.
A clear sign of Siraj Mohammed's peripheral role came during Gor Mahia's recent 4-1 defeat to APS Bomet. Despite the team making nine changes to the starting lineup, he remained on the sidelines.
In a telling move, midfielder Fidel Origa was even deployed as a makeshift left-back late in the game, suggesting Mohammed is not part of the technical staff's plans.
Siraj Mohammed Reveals Plans to Leave Gor Mahia
Speaking to Mozzart Sport, the defender acknowledged that the circumstances have forced him to consider his future elsewhere.
"I'll be seeking a move in January to get more playing time," Siraj Mohammed opened up. "I had hoped to feature regularly at Gor Mahia, but that hasn’t happened."
He expressed his desire to find a mutually agreeable solution with the club's management, emphasising his need for on-field action.
"As a player, I want to be on the pitch as much as possible, and I’ll speak with the club to find the best way forward for everyone," he added.
Gor Mahia's next fixture is the highly anticipated Mashemeji Derby against AFC Leopards on Sunday, December 7, at Nyayo Stadium.
