Gout Gout Puts Noah Lyles, Letsile Tebogo and Co on Notice With Latest Ambition
Australian sprinting sensation Gout Gout remains unfazed by the frequent comparisons to Usain Bolt, even after drawing praise from the legend himself.
At just 17, Gout Gout is already being hailed as the next global track superstar and is managing the immense pressure that comes with shattering records.
"It's definitely inspiring, because to know that the rest of the world thinks and believes I'm looking like him and could potentially be him is something that can only fill me with confidence," Gout told the Daily Mail. "And to be compared to the greatest athlete I've ever seen technically is amazing."
Gout Gout Sets Ultimate Target for LA 2028 Olympic Games
The young athlete has his sights set on the highest honours in the sport as he looks to dethrone Noah Lyles and Letsile Tebogo.
Noah Lyles, a four-time world 200m champion, has been dominating the distance, but Gout Gout feels it is time for him to take charge as he looks forward to dethroning the American at the 2027 World Championships.
Gout Gout has also set sights on winning the 200m Olympic gold, sending a message to Letsile Tebogo, who is the reigning champion.
"Hopefully, I can be up to their level and up to the point where we're being compared because of titles, records, gold medals and stuff like that," he explained.
"My ultimate dream is Olympic gold, hopefully in the 200m in Los Angeles in 2028 and then on to Brisbane in 2032. So it's pretty cool, for sure."
Gout Gout on Drawing Inspiration From Usain Bolt, Noah Lyles
To prepare for the world stage, Gout Gout studies the sport's elite, focusing on more than just their physical technique.
"I try and study other sprinters, not just Bolt. I definitely look at the way they move and the way they present themselves," he said.
"Especially being on the biggest stage in the world, you've got to control your nerves, control everything about it."
He added, "I think Bolt's definitely a prime example because he doesn't really let anything get to him. He's a really chill guy. He's definitely up there in my all-time greats."
Gout Gout has also formed a strong bond with current 100m Olympic champion Noah Lyles, who has taken on a mentorship role for the rising star. "In track and field, I'd mention Noah Lyles, obviously. He's a good mate," Gout noted.
Gout Gout's remarkable talent and high-profile endorsements have already led to lucrative opportunities. Last year, he signed a deal with Adidas, reportedly worth £3 million, that extends through the 2032 Olympics. Despite the potential pressure of such a contract, Gout Gout remains focused on his long-term goals.
