The Norwegian striker was once again at his clinical best, striking twice in the first half before Nico O’Reilly added a third to seal the win at the Etihad Stadium.

The result lifted Pep Guardiola’s side to second in the Premier League table, keeping the pressure on leaders Arsenal.

Erling Haaland’s brace took his tally to a remarkable 17 goals in 13 games for City this season, complemented by an additional nine for Norway. He was named Player of the Match for his performance, but his work was far from over once the final whistle blew.

Erling Haaland: Ice-Cold Motivation

Hours after the game, Erling Haaland shared a glimpse of his uncompromising post-match ritual on social media.

In a short video posted to his X (formerly Twitter) account, the 25-year-old could be seen preparing for an ice bath in his garden, with the temperature reading just eight degrees.

Holding his Player of the Match trophy, Erling Haaland quipped, “For motivational purposes only,” before setting the award beside the tub and declaring, “Motivation stands there.”

He then plunged into the freezing water, gasping as the cold took hold before finishing with a triumphant fist pump.

The caption read: “For motivational purposes only #POTM.”

Erling Haaland’s Light-Hearted Dig at Guardiola

Despite being on a hat-trick, Erling Haaland was substituted with eight minutes remaining, replaced by Omar Marmoush.

After the match, he jokingly suggested that his manager might owe an explanation to disappointed Fantasy Premier League players.

“You’ll have to ask Pep about that,” he laughed. “I think a few fantasy managers weren’t too happy when I came off.”

Reflecting on the victory, Haaland described it as an important response following a tough away defeat, saying: “It’s good to bounce back. I just try to help the team, whether that’s scoring goals or winning duels, that’s my job.”

The win brought Manchester City to within six points of Arsenal, who maintained their lead with a 2-0 win over Burnley.

Pep Guardiola’s men now shift focus to a Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday, before returning to Premier League action against Liverpool next weekend.
