DR Congo’s TP Mazembe end shameful CAFCL in style as South African giants shock Al Ahly

DR Congo’s TP Mazembe ended their disappointing CAF Champions League, CAFCL campaign on a high note after an emphatic 4-0 victory over Al Hilal in Kinshasa.

Despite being eliminated from the tournament earlier, Mazembe delivered an attacking clinic to end their journey comprehensively, with Jean Diouf opening the scoring in the 21st minute, followed by goals from Ibrahima Keita, Mercy Ngembe, and Souleymane Chaibou.

This performance was a significant turnaround for the Congolese giants, who had struggled throughout the group stage in a shocking campaign.

In a parallel thrilling encounter, South Africa’s Orlando Pirates shocked Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly with a 2-1 victory at Cairo Stadium.

The Pirates clinched the top spot in Group C, thanks to Relebohile Mofokeng's opener in the 53rd minute and Gilberto's late strike in the 83rd minute.

Although Al Ahly managed to equalise through Hussein El Shahat, their efforts were thwarted by a disallowed goal from Rami Rabia.

But despite the heartbreaking defeat at home, Al Ahly advanced as group runners-up with 10 points behind Pirates.

Meanwhile, on a day that witnessed a total of 24 goals scored across six matches, Pyramids FC joined to make headlines.

They secured their place in the knockout stages of the tournament following a 6-0 demolition of their visitors Djoliba AC De Bamako of Mali.
