‎Brian Musa and Pamba Swaleh have been omitted from the final team over health concerns ahead of Kenya's first match against DR Congo on Sunday.

‎Musa, who has been a doubt for the tournament after sustaining an injury in a closed-door pre-CHAN friendly, will play no further part after McCarthy confirmed that he has a hamstring problem.

‎"Brian Musa pulled his hamstring so we did scans and the doctor is yet to report but it does not look healthy so to take precautionary measures, we brought in extra players just in case of injuries on two or three that you will have to replace," McCarthy told the media on Wednesday.

‎"That (Musa's injury) is not ideal because he is a player that looks like he could have fought for a starting XI place."

‎McCarthy then revealed a major health concern over Swaleh that has locked the Bandari FC defender out of the team.

‎"We also did tests and had a medical report on all players and we found out that there was a slight problem with the heart of one of the players, Pamba Swaleh," added McCarthy.

‎"He has a little bit of a defect so I think for cautious reasons we first need to find out from the medical department what to do with this situation.

‎"Is it a critical one, it is one that could jeopardize the player’s career and future moving forward so it is one of those situations that you run the risk and God forbid anything happens and as a coach and medical department, you have to take responsibility because we pick these players and we have to wait and be sure what to do in this situation so we had to look at best case scenarios and brought in extra players."

‎Despite the health concerns of the two players, McCarthy has remained confident of a great start to the tournament and is happy that he has a team that is ready to compete and make Kenyans proud.
