The Barcelona squad continues to be rocked by injuries ahead of the new season, as Spain international Ansu Fati becomes the latest to be sidelined.
The 21-year-old has had a torrid time with his physical health, missing a whopping 120 games due to injuries since the 2019/20 season.
Fati’s bout with injuries
Ansu debuted at 16 and served as a beacon of hope in a bleak period for the Blaugrana. He was handed the number 10 jersey following the exit of Lionel Messi, underscoring his promise.
However, he has had few opportunities to don the number for Barcelona due to his injury problems. He has since fallen down the pecking order at the club, and given his high wages, he was pushed out on loan to Brighton, where a calf injury sidelined him for another 14 matches.
Ansu failed in his redemption mission to Brighton, and he is now back with Barcelona for pre-season training. He impressed in the first week of training, earning plaudits from manager Hansi Flick and giving hope for the season to come; however, he has now suffered another setback.
Another injury for Ansu Fati
Barcelona announced yesterday that Fati suffered a foot injury in training, which effectively rules him out of their pre-season tour of the USA.
A report today from Football Espana provided more details on the situation. Per the report, Fati is suffering from plantar fasciitis, which is the inflammation of the plantar fascia, a tissue in the foot integral to walking and foot movement.
Per the report, the injury is one that typically poses a challenge to proffer a prognosis for, and in most cases, the healing process is long.
The earliest the striker is expected to be back in action is in three weeks; however, it is not ruled out that the injury could keep him on the sidelines for a month.
Meanwhile, Barcelona still plan on selling Ansu Fati permanently and have placed him on the transfer market.
