Aldrine Kibet Makes Big Promise to Kenyans After Dream Harambee Stars Debut
Kenyan teen sensation Aldrine Kibet has now cast his sights on a bigger role after his cameo appearance on his Harambee Stars debut as Kenya lost 1-0 to Equatorial Guinea on Friday.
Benni McCarthy’s men lost the first of this month’s friendly matches when Josete Miranda’s penalty on the stroke of halftime separated the two sides, but there were some notable debuts for youngsters Kevin Otiende and Kibet.
Kibet came on in the final five minutes of the contest as Kenya were looking for an equaliser but he could not make a significant impact although the moment remains etched in his memory.

That was the first senior appearance for the 19-year-old attacking midfielder, who plays for Celta Vigo’s youth team in Spain, and after getting a feel of the big stage, the St Anthony’s Boys Kitale alumnus has big ambitions.
“Every moment writes a new story… more on the way,” Kibet posted on social media, promising to bring more quality to the senior side as he looks for a more significant role going forward.
Kibet is among youngsters called up by McCarthy for this month’s friendlies against the Equatoguineans and Senegal, the others being Otiende, Gor Mahia defender Bryton Onyona and Zamalek’s Baron Ochieng, as the tactician begins early preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Celta Vigo Youngster Has Been on the Rise
He will hope to get more minutes in the more testing encounter against 2021 Africa Cup of Nations winners Senegal, also set to be played in Turkey, on Thursday.
Kibet has enjoyed a meteoric rise since his starring role in the national secondary school games with St Anthony’s in August 2023, which earned him a move to the Nastic Soccer Academy in Tarragona, Spain before the dream transfer to Celta Vigo in July 2025.
He was part of Kenya’s team that reached the final of the 2023 CECAFA U18 Championships as well as the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations, when Rising Stars exited at the group stage.
