The Boavista defender did not have much playing time for the Super Eagles at the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d'Ivoire.

The Super Eagles team received the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) national honor from President Bola Tinubu for their outstanding performance at the just-ended AFCON competition in Ivory Coast.
After receiving the recognition, Onyemaechi took to social media to appreciate the president for the gesture.
Along with the photos was a message that said, "Thank you Mr president for honoring me and my team mates yesterday.
"I’m now M.O.N 🎖️ all glory be to God #godisthegreatest🙏🏾💯."
Onyemaechi is now expected to return to Boavista in the Portuguese First division.
