The 12-time Kenyan champions have endured a frustrating 27-year wait for a league crown, with lack of a reliable goal scorer often blamed for their struggles.

Okello, 25, currently skippers Ugandan giants Vipers SC and was the standout performer in the 2024/25 Ugandan Premier League, finishing as top scorer with 19 goals.

His form has carried onto the international stage, where he has spearheaded Uganda’s CHAN 2024 run with three goals so far. His most recent strike—a vital equalizer in the thrilling 3–3 draw against South Africa—secured the Cranes’ place in the quarter finals.

Okello Would Be a Transformative Signing - Mulindi

Mulindi admits bringing Okello to Nairobi will not be straightforward. The striker’s exploits have drawn attention from several clubs abroad, including suitors in Europe, and Leopards must first establish whether he is open to staying on the continent.

“Okello is the kind of player who transforms a team instantly,” Mulindi said as quoted on Citizen Digital.

“But we also understand many of these talents are being monitored by clubs with far bigger offers. We cannot waste time on players already leaning towards overseas moves.”

Despite the stiff competition, Mulindi insists fans should remain calm, pointing out that the newly elected Leopards leadership—Chairman Boniface Ambani, Secretary General Isaac Mulindi, and Treasurer Newton Mulindi—has set its sights on reviving the club’s lost glory.

Fans have been expressing concern over why the club has yet to make any signings under the new regime. According to reports, the new management is also in the process of cutting costs and placing a salary cap on their new squad.

However, Mulndi has pleaded for patience.

“We are rebuilding carefully. Our focus is on signing players who will buy into our vision. The journey has just begun, but we are confident the results will come,” he assured.

Okello’s signing would signal intent from Leopards and potentially provide the missing firepower that has eluded them since their last league triumph in 1998.

With his proven scoring record and international pedigree, he fits the bill as the marquee striker the Ingwe faithful have been craving.
