Menengai Oilers' Brian Ndirangu departs after seven impactful years, leaving a legacy as a versatile and celebrated rugby player.

Menengai Oilers' esteemed player Brian Ndirangu has taken a significant step in his rugby career by joining Westshore Rugby in Victoria, Canada.

Ndirangu, renowned for his versatility on the field as a backrower and second row player, departs from the Oilers after an impressive seven-year tenure, leaving a legacy as one of the team's most capped and longest-serving members.

Speaking from his new base in Vancouver, Canada, Ndirangu expressed deep gratitude towards his former club.

"These seven years have been about growth and learning," he remarked.

"At Oilers, I learned that it's not about being the biggest or fastest; it's about the will, determination, and discipline to learn. Everything you set your eyes on is achievable. I've had seven incredible years with one team, one coach, and incredible teammates."

His journey with the Menengai Oilers has been nothing short of remarkable.

Starting in 2016, Ndirangu became the first captain of the newly formed team, leading them through a transformative phase. He has since played 108 games for the Oilers, embodying the spirit of the team and the sport.

Ndirangu's contributions extended beyond the club level.

He was a pivotal figure in the national 15s team, the Simbas, where he made his test debut in November 2023.

This followed his inclusion in the Simbas squad that participated in South Africa's Currie Cup, a testament to his growing stature in international rugby.

Reflecting on his time with the Oilers and looking forward to his new journey, Ndirangu shared, "I have also had an amazing working and personal relationship with Coach Gibson Weru and his staff. To the fans, I will definitely miss you and the atmosphere at the Refinery during home games and the derby. To my teammates who have been incredible to me over the years, I will always carry you in my heart."

Coach Gibson Weru, speaking about Ndirangu's departure, conveyed a mixture of pride and nostalgia.

"Brian is a player who served us well. When he informed me of the opportunity he has, I was happy for him. This is a chance for him to grow as a player and as a man," Weru said.

"We have mixed reactions; we will miss his experience. We've developed him from the Nationwide league to being a consistent player for the Simbas. We wish him all the best and are sure he will return someday even better."
