Despite all these challenges affecting the fighters who are mainly based in the country's informal settlements, hundreds have punched above their weight and risen above the odds.

Newly elected World Kickboxing Federation of Kenya president Japheth Yahuma Adongo on Saturday, April 29, paid a courtesy call to the Hardcore Mixed Martial Arts Club Kayole II Social Hall and was devastated by the state of the training environment.

It was Yahuma’s first visit to the club, and he has since called upon the government and private sector to support the welfare of the youngsters training in the area.

"I call upon all well-wishers to kindly come on board and support all our sporting talents across the country. I have visited different combat sports and realised that our clubs lack proper equipment for training," Yahuma said.

He added that as a federation, they plan on initiating a program where they shall visit different clubs monthly to give Kenyan combat sports a facelift.

Combat sports in the country, including Mixed Martial Arts, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, K1, and Extreme Combat Sports, among other disciplines, face similar setbacks, such as a lack of proper equipment, conducive training, and adequate sponsorship.

"The federation is planning to initiate a program of visiting different clubs on a monthly basis to provide the much-needed support, a mission that requires joint intervention to be accomplished," he said.

Despite all these challenges affecting the fighters mainly based in the country's informal settlements, hundreds have punched above their weight and risen above the odds.

"We are also looking forward to introducing inter-club leagues to help us tap talent from across the country. For all these set goals to be actualized, the World Kickboxing Federation Kenya invites all the interested partners to walk with us along this path,” he concluded.
