Daniels hopes to benefit from another NOC-K high performance youth camp ahead of the games.

Judoka Kelly Daniel is looking forward to make a mark on the global stage when young athletes converge for Commonwealth Youth Games scheduled for August 4 to 11 in Port of Spain, Trinidad Tobago.

Daniel, who is a beneficiary of the National Olympic Committee of Kenya Elite Youth Training camp revealed that he will use the skills gained to make his dream a reality.

“I want to maximise this opportunity to perfect my skills so I can do better this time round. When I go for the competitions, I want to come back home with a medal,” Daniel said.

He was also a beneficiary of the second NOC-K camp that was staged last year in April at the Kenyatta University, Ruiru campus.

He revealed that the quality training he did in the camo was what propelled him to finish third at the 2022 African Cadet Championships in July.

“When I went for my first camp, my game was very low because I barely knew anything. When I was leaving, I had been impacted so much and that propelled me to finish in the podium at the Africa Judo Championships,” he said.

Daniel is a student at the Kobala Mixed Secondary School and he said being part of the camp has protected him from engaging in heinous acts during school holidays.

He added that it has also prevented him from conflicts with people back at home and he called upon NOC-K to ensure they keep up the camps to help the young people nurture their talent.

“Through the camps, I have been able to avoid use of drugs and crossing paths the wrong way with people back at home. I have also been able to make a lot of friends,” he said.

NOC-K kickstarted the third edition of the camp in January this year at the Merishaw School in Isinya, Kajiado County in January. The fourth camp has already kicked off with the juniors still training at the Merishaw School.

The committee is set to stage other two camps in August and December and Daniels hopes to be part of the beneficiaries.
