Harambee Stars will still face Tanzania, Uganda and Senegal in Arusha, but the original fixture schedule has been changed due to an unexpected hiccup.

Kenya’s matches in the upcoming CECAFA Four Nations Tournament have been rescheduled following a last-minute change prompted by logistical issues affecting Senegal, the current African Nations Championship (CHAN) holders.

The announcement was made by the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) on Sunday, July 20, just a day before the tournament’s kickoff at Karatu Stadium in Arusha.

In a brief statement, CECAFA confirmed that Senegal had encountered logistical time constraints, forcing a reshuffle of matchday schedules.

As a result, the highly anticipated opening clash between Tanzania and Senegal, as well as Kenya’s initial fixture against Uganda, have been moved to later dates.

Harambee Stars will now kick off their campaign with a match against hosts Tanzania on Monday, July 21, followed by a duel against Senegal on Thursday, July 24. Kenya’s final match will be against Uganda on Sunday, July 27.

The revised fixtures are as follows:

Kenya vs Tanzania – July 21

Kenya vs Senegal – July 24

Kenya vs Uganda – July 27

The tournament, played in a round-robin format, replaces the previously proposed CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup and serves as a vital warm-up ahead of CHAN 2024, which Kenya will co-host alongside Uganda and Tanzania.

Harambee Stars landed in Arusha on Saturday, July 19, with head coach Benni McCarthy optimistic about the team’s preparations.

“It is a good tournament to gauge our preparedness for CHAN,” McCarthy said on Friday. “We are going to face formidable opponents, and that will clearly show us what is working and what needs to be fixed.”
