Sofapaka midfielder Khalid Jumaan has been disciplined by the club following a strike, after missing a key league game against Nzoia Sugar.

Against the backdrop of a turbulent period for Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) side Sofapaka, midfielder Khalid Jumaan faces severe repercussions following a recent disciplinary hearing.

The club's administration has imposed a hefty fine and mandated community service for the rest of the season, signaling a strict stance against player misconduct.

Jumaan was among nine players who were required to present their case before the disciplinary committee. The proceedings stemmed from their failure to participate in the team's Round 13 league game against Nzoia Sugar at Sudi Stadium.

The allegations leveled against them included insubordination, incitement, sabotage, misconduct, and unauthorized absenteeism.

"In reference to the Disciplinary meeting held on 13th December 2023, the committee found you guilty of violating Article 13 by engaging in strike/picketing, leading to your absence from training for over five days without valid reasons or permissions," stated a letter signed by the club's Chief Executive Officer, Jimmy Ambajo.

"Your conduct, including inciting team members not to travel for our match against Nzoia Sugar FC, brought the club into disrepute."

The letter further highlighted the player's failure to communicate with club officials regarding his absence or any financial assistance he might have needed, which was seen as an indirect act of sabotage, thereby breaching his contract as per Article 1.

"As a result of these violations, the club has fined you Kshs 400,000, which must be paid within the next seven days. Additionally, you are to immediately commence community service as directed by the Team Manager until the season's end, during which time you will be suspended from the rest of the squad," the letter concluded.

The club also noted that Jumaan could initiate Article 14 of his contract, provided he adheres to club regulations.

This sanction comes at a critical time for Sofapaka, who have struggled with financial stability after two seasons without a shirt sponsor.

The imposed sanctions on Jumaan, a former player for Belgian side KAS Eupen and Turkey's Yalova SK, mark a significant moment in his career.

Before joining Sofapaka, Jumaan had stints with several local clubs, including AFC Leopards.

The situation at Sofapaka highlights the ongoing challenges faced by clubs in the FKF Premier League, particularly concerning financial management and player welfare.

The players' strike, believed to be in protest of delayed salaries and allowances, underscores the need for better structures and support systems within the league.
