HARAMBEE STARS: Mauritius vs Kenya player ratings: Omala fluffs his lines on debut, epitomizes Harambee Stars poor show

Mauritius 1-0 Kenya player ratings.

Kenya ended the four nations tournament series in disappointing manner, losing 1-0 to the hosts courtesy of a goal by Kengy Saramandif in the 22nd minute.

Although it was an affair characterized by the referee making some dodgy decisions against the Kenyans, one might argue that the quality Kenya possesses is way too strong to have gone down to Mauritius. After all, this is a nation they beat 5-2 back in October 2015.

How did the players perform? Pulse Sports Kenya brings you our ratings of the players that played today, and let us be honest, most deserve to look at themselves in the mirror after that performance.

Bryne Omondi- 6

Making only his second appearance for Kenya, the KCB goalkeeper would have expected to build on from a rather decent debut against Pakistan when he looked assured in goal and kept a clean sheet.

For the goal he conceded, one might argue that he might have done better with the attempted save, as he saved the ball well from a towering header by Mauritius, but could not handle the ball allowing Kengy Saramandif to capitalize on the rebound. Otherwise, he was largely untested, although he did make a good save in the 70th minute.

Amos Nondi- 5

To put it in simple terms, it is a game Nondi will want to forget as he played a part in conceding that goal. Having been tasked with marking his near post, he should have smelt the danger as Kengy Saramandif ran unmarked into the box as he opportunistically ran to pounce on the rebound by Bryne. Nondi should have spotted his run earlier.

He was also tasked with set-piece taking responsibility and failed to be accurate with most of his attempts.

David Cheche Ochieng’-6

David Cheche Ochieng’ did not have much to do and looked fairly solid throughout with his defending, organizational skills and distribution, but you cannot give him more than a 6 for being part of a losing defense.

Collins Shichenje- 6

Again, much like his partner, Shichenje did not have much to do and looked solid.

Eric Marcelo Ouma-4

Marcelo has been underwhelming in his last few outings for the national team. He started as a left back, before being moved to left wing in the second half. Everything he tried to do was wrong, especially as he struggled to beat his man every time.

Clifton Miheso -5

The Kenya Police winger was given a chance to start, having started the Pakistan game on the bench. He struggled to make any impact on both flanks, often failing to be accurate with his attempts from set-pieces and shots.

Richard Odada -6

Odada failed to build on from his solid performance against Pakistan on Wednesday. He looked good in bursts as he attempted to be progressive, but it was not one of his better showings.

Teddy Akumu - 6

Akumu should have scored early in the second half when Amos Nondi created a chance for him, but he dithered upon receiving the ball and took too many touches which allowed Mauritius to get back into the game and score.

Victor Omune-4

The AFC Leopards man was anonymous and struggled to be effective before being withdrawn at half-time

Michael Olunga-6

The captain attempted to link play well and looked more lively in the second half after a rather indifferent first half. Had a good chance to score in the 70th minute when he combined well with substitute Moses Shummah.

Benson Omala -3

The Gor Mahia forward showed why he was left out of the trip to Iran. He struggled to get into the game and barely even got a touch of the ball before being subbed off.

Moses Shummah- 7

The scorer against Pakistan, Shummah tried to make things happen when he came on as a substitute. He was a livewire that gave Mauritius all sorts of problems in the second half and nearly scored on a couple of occasions himself.

Abud Omar- 6

Omar came on as a half time substitute and generally looked decent as he attempted some early crosses and long range passes from deep into the final third with his left foot.

Daniel Sakari-7

Sakari tried to make a difference especially with his excellent long throws from the right, which caused Mauritius problems at least four or five times.

Engin Firat -5

You can tell what the Turkish tactician is trying to do by insisting on using a 4-4-2 formation with wingers who help track back without the ball, but he was too rigid and should have made more positive changes to change the outcome of the game.
